ted with an energy-saving standby
mode that automatically reduces pow-
erconsumption to a minimum when the
laser is not in use.
Depending on the type and thickness
of the actual material, the standard
PierceLine technology, which applies
the principle of “as much as possible,
as short as necessary”, ensures the
piercing cycle is shortened significantly.
The average power supplied is always
below the point at which the material
starts to burn uncontrollably. This re-
sults in extremely precise laser piercing
holes with less material swarf, therefore
eliminating a further production step.
The general rule of thumb with stan-
dard laser cutting machines is that the
minimum hole diameter is equal to the
material thickness. This means smaller
hole diameters then have to be drilled
mechanically. The new system ensures
smaller and extremely precise holes
can now be laser cut.
The common manual focus tool on
older machines has been replaced with
an automatic one at the new laser cut-
ting machine, which, depending on the
type and thickness of the actual materi-
al, guarantees great cutting speeds and
perfect edge quality. The laser control
unit is linked directly to the machine
control unit via Profibus, and process
sequences are displayed graphically on
a user-friendly touch screen. Extensive
self-diagnosis functions allow the engi-
neers and technicians at Hamül Plauen
to monitor processes closely. In other
words, processes can be enhanced in
real-time during actual production activ-
ity. The new laser cutting machine
helps the SCHERDELGroup create a
faster and more flexible workflow.
Moreover, it not only contributes to a
significant improvement in production
quality, its enhanced energy concept al-
so aids the efforts to build up a sustain-
able production system.
