he extent to which SCHERDEL's
activities are determined by
progress and innovation is very evident
in the development and production of
valve springs. In addition, the Group
can call on a particularly long period of
experience in this field. For example, as
early as 1893 SCHERDEL contributed
to Rudolf Diesel's development of the
world's first diesel engine by supplying
valve springs. Throughout the Compa-
ny's history, on account of innovative
developments, SCHERDEL has be-
come one of the leading manufacturers
of valve springs worldwide, providing a
service for every type of valve-spring
application. One historic example of the
pioneering spirit which SCHERDEL has
always demonstrated is the introduction
of shot-peening to Europe in 1936
when the Company used this process
to improve the service life of valve
springs.
SCHERDEL's valve springs have
proved their efficiency in every field.
From racing, where they are used for
short-term fatigue strength (LCF = low
cycle fatigue), to series application for
long-term fatigue strength with extreme-
ly long operating times (HCF = high cy-
cle fatigue). SCHERDEL is also the
leader in relation to the further develop-
ment of production processes and ma-
terials.
SCHERDEL is now continuing the
success story of valve-spring produc-
tion in China too. At the location in An-
qing, they first of all began production
of high-quality piston-ring springs (coil
springs) at the end of 2007 and, since
then, they have continued expanding
production in order to meet the increas-
ing requirements of the customers in
the growth market China. It was impor-
tant to have a production location in
China so as to be able to react more
quickly to customer inquiries. In addi-
tion, it was a question of shortening the
delivery times and providing more flexi-
ble working conditions. On account of
very short ordering and delivery periods,
the Chinese market demands extremely
quick reaction times and the availability
of the corresponding capacity.

Max Biaggi winner of the
Superbike World Cham-
pionship ― Aprilia relies
on valve springs made
by SCHERDEL
During the 2010 season
Max Biaggi, nicknamed "the
Star of Rome", displayed his
incredible, exceptional talent
for the sport of motor-cycle
racing. Although he is already
39 years old and has been
absent from the stage of in-
ternational racing events for
some time, last year during
the Superbike World Champi-
onship races Biaggi achieved
four double wins for the make
of motor-cycle known as
Aprilia. Along with another
win from the previous year
and the fact that he also fin-
ished second (twice) and
third (twice), the Aprilia racing
driver had already collected
enough points in the course
of the second-last season in
Imola and was already sure
of the title. The Italian racing
star thus won a World Cham-
pionship title after a break of
thirteen years, showing his
much younger competitors
that he was clearly superior.
Particularly encouraging: Bi-
aggi's Aprilia RSV4 is fitted
with valve springs made by
SCHERDEL. In 2008, Aprilia
had decided that SCHERDEL
was to be the supplier of high
performance valve springs.
The decisive factors here
were the technical solutions
proposed by the SCHERDEL
specialists and the proven
high quality of the products.
Valve springs for racing are
components requiring exact
calculation and a high degree
of precision. Throughout the
whole season they provided
reliable service, thus con-
tributing to the sporting suc-
cess. SCHERDEL congratu-
lates Aprilia and Max Biaggi
on winning the 2011 World
Championship title!
